Questions

1. From the minutes of the Airport Advisory Board meeting on July 18, 2007 (errors in grammar are by the city, not this website): "Mr. Perry stated that there is no current plans to extend the runway.  He said he was aware that a rumor is out about extending the runway.  Mrs. Walker stated that it was in the Master Plan but that not all project in the Master Plan are developed."  According to our dictionary, a plan is a "method worked out beforehand for the accomplishment of an object."  And the City used taxpayer dollars to have this plan prepared!  Our Question:  If the Airport Advisory Board is "government in the sunshine" and if there is truly no intention of extending runway 11-29 to accommodate larger aircraft, then why hasn't the City notified the FAA and removed this project from the Airport Master Plan like the City of Ormond Beach recently did?

2. Current compliance with the Airport's "Touch & Go Restrictions" is a joke.  A source of major annoyance to nearby residents, increasing Touch & Go activities will likely result in falling property values .  Why doesn't the City Commission together with the Airport Manager use their "bully pulpit" to bring the flight schools into compliance and reduce the number of training flights over our city?

3. Like roads, runways deteriorate through use and need to be periodically resurfaced.  Rather than continually relying on federal grants (taxpayer funded monies), why not charge reasonable landing fees which would put some of the maintenance burden on those causing most of the runway depreciation?

3. Maintenance of two runways (numbers 7-25 and 11-29) are at least partially covered by FAA grant monies.  The third runway (number 2-20) is not.  Is the city budgeting tax dollars for the future costly maintenance and resurfacing of this runway?

4. Why did the City Commission allow the Airport tenants to get so far behind in rent?

5. Tom Crevasse is President of Vintage Props and Jets.  His wife, Linda Crevasse is in her 4th 3 year term on the New Smyrna Beach Airport Advisory Board.  By August 2007, Vintage Props and Jets was $95,000 behind in rent due to the Airport.  Is this a conflict of interest?

6. Why did the 2003 Airport fence cost over 1/3 million dollars?

7. Why does the Airport allow Touch & Go activities while fans are in the nearby stadium?
